the one time to remain silent

I am generally a proponent of speaking up, and in most cases I think it takes more bravery to use your voice than to be silent. Except for this one instance...

When speaking up will produce no positive fruit, you are better to stay quiet.

I saw this lived out this week in a community I am connected to. A private battle flared up and became public, and it wasn't long before people were piling on to make their position known.

One side was deafeningly loud.

The other held back from entering the fray.

As I watched the scene unfold, I considered whether there was anything the quiet side could say which would lead to a peaceful resolution. Given the circumstances, I had to admit there was not. Apparently they felt the same way.

When you are in a no-win situation that honest words can't remedy, it is better to sit quietly in the tension of the unresolved than to stir the pot of conflict with words that will fall on deaf ears anyway.

The madding crowd may press you for a response but you don't have to give in to their frenzied ways. The key is to remember that God - not people - holds your future in His hands.

And He will reveal the truth - and His justice - in His perfect time.

For TRUTH...
