be grateful for what isn’t

This morning I woke up scared.

My husband and I have been navigating a difficult situation for a few years now and yesterday there was a new development that started the wheels turning in my mind, playing out worst-case scenarios and stirring the fear that has been running like a constant undercurrent since it all began.

The truth is that it is a completely unfair situation.

It is also true is that things could be a lot worse.

As hard as certain things are in my life, there are so many harder things I've never spent a minute worrying about because they've never happened.

  • I don't struggle with health problems.

  • I haven't walked through divorce.

  • I don't have to worry about a place to live.

  • I never wonder if my family will have enough to eat.

As I write this list I can think of multiple people I know who ARE contending with one or more of these things, not to mention the millions around the world who are facing unspeakable loss and tragedy those of us in Western civilization can't even fathom.

So today I am choosing to be grateful for what isn't, not to deny what IS, but to balance my fear of the unknown with my faith in the One who has taken care of me in more ways than I even know.

What non-issue are YOU are grateful for?

For TRUTH...
