fruit has seeds
When I was a child a friend had a magnet on their refrigerator with a saying that has stuck with me all these years: “Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only God can count the apples in a seed.”
I don't know about you, but I have often focused on "fruit" as the final product of my choices. Good choices = good fruit. Bad choices... you get the gist.
Last weekend, while sitting on my porch and hearing some kind of hard, weighty fruit drop from a tree onto our metal-roofed shed, I had a somewhat obvious epiphany:
Fruit is not the end. In many ways, it's actually the beginning.
The fruit of selfishness bears seeds of scarcity.
The fruit of generosity bears seeds of abundance.
The fruit of pride bears seeds of shame.
The fruit of humility bears seeds of contentment.
Like the "apples in a seed" concept from my friend's magnet, only God knows what will be birthed out of the fruit we produce, and how many lives will be impacted along the way, whether positively or negatively.
The decisions we make each day will continue to bear fruit of their own over time and in more ways than we can imagine.
It's impossible to make right choices all the time, so give yourself grace if you've made a few bad ones. I certainly have.
But next time you're at a crossroads, ask yourself "what is the fruit?" of each possible path. And then consider whether the seeds of that fruit will grow into the legacy you want to leave in this world.
As for me, I've got some pruning to do.
For TRUTH...
