What if it’s not what you thought?
A few minutes ago I was on a conference call where perhaps the biggest takeaway was this:
“What if all this happened just to bring us to this unanticipated yet meaningful conversation?”
Honestly, if not for the circumstances that led to scheduling the call, it probably wouldn’t have happened, and certainly not in the same timing. And yet there were SO MANY good things that came out the conversation, and we all agreed God’s hand was clearly in it.
Much of the creative life - and life in general - doesn’t follow the lines we thought it would.
Plans change. Ideas morph into new shapes. Dreams and passions often feel stalled out in the midst of tending to less exciting responsibilities. Along the way it’s natural to experience disappointment, shame, or hopelessness, often squelching our dreams even more. But it’s important to remember there’s always a bigger picture we can’t see.
Because what if…
The purpose of the plan you made was to bring you to an opportunity for growth and/or healing you might not have sought out?
The ideas you initially had wouldn’t have worked in their original form?
Your dreams and passions are being refined because Jesus loves you too much to give you what you think you want if he knows it isn’t what you need (or WHEN you need it)?
Proverbs 19:21 tells us “You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail.” This is GOOD news.
Whatever disappointment comes to mind for you as you read this note, know that Jesus is WITH you in the midst of it. And that he is GOOD and knows exactly what you need next. So be on the lookout for an unexpected conversation, or a turn in the road you weren’t anticipating.
It just might be take you where he’s been leading you all along.
For TRUTH…
