stop waiting for perfect
Last night I spoke at my church's women's study on the theme of "The Perfection Trap." It's a topic that affects everyone, especially creatives, and I'm not just talking about the pressure to BE perfect.
How many times have you put off writing, or painting, or some other artistic expression because you are waiting for some magical, "perfect" moment when the chaos of life will pause and you can be creative without dropping some other ball?
Yep. Me too.
Maybe you, like me, have seen days, months, or even years fly by without making progress on your creative dreams, to the point that you wonder if you were crazy to have them in the first place.
The problem isn't that you're not creative; it's that you're waiting for something that will never come.
Scripture tells us, "If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done." (Ecc. 11:4 - TLB). The reality is you will ALWAYS have lots of things clamoring for your time, which means if you're waiting for "perfect", you'll never move beyond where you are today in your creative endeavors.
But what if there's a way to be busy AND creative?
Prioritizing creativity is a necessary part of becoming more fully who you were created to be. It just takes a little intentionality.
It's why I'm writing this note to you right now, BEFORE I get into all the 'tasks' on my list for today. I don't HAVE to post; I CHOOSE to, so that I am being faithful to this part of my craft, and keeping the creative juices flowing.
What creative thing will YOU prioritize today?
For TRUTH...
