resume.
Much of the work I do each week involves helping creatives use their voice in some way, which I LOVE.
I also know, however, that God has given ME a voice to use as well, and that without intention it won’t happen. So about a year ago I blocked out my calendar on Thursdays and have tried to dedicate that day to writing, posting, or engaging in some other creative endeavor as I feel led.
I haven’t been as successful as I would like…
Sometimes I’ve been too busy on someone else’s project to afford a whole day to work on my own. Other weeks I’ve carved out the time but couldn’t seem to find the flow I was so certain would come. And then there have been the seasons when the kindest move was to release the need to create anything at all…
Like me, you’ve probably experienced your own share of creative blocks, and perhaps you’ve discovered that the longer we go between using our creative voices fully the harder it can seem to get over the hump. Which is why I love the gentle invitation of this one little word:
Resume.
It’s simple, really. So simple that after experimenting with a variety of titles for this post, I felt the truest help was just the word itself.
No expectations.
Just lots of grace.
For example…
You don’t have to stress about creating something amazing; just RESUME making time to create.
You don’t have to be in great shape vocally; just RESUME using your voice.
You don’t have to fix the past to pursue your future; just RESUME living in the present.
So that’s what I’m doing… with this post, actually…
I’ve carved out the time, made the intention, and now a little sliver of my creativity has made its way to you. It may not be the most life-changing thing I’ve written, but it’s resetting the clock on how long it’s been since using my voice through this medium. (3 Thursdays, in case you’re wondering.) And I have to say that feels good.
And maybe, just maybe, it will inspire you to “resume” too. Whatever that looks like for you, I’m cheering you on.
For TRUTH…
